Apple and Sage Chutney

Makes : 4 cups


Ingredients :

  • 6 (800g) green apples, peeled, cored and cut into wedges
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1½ cups cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 x 5cm pieces lemon rind
  • ¾ cup sage leaves
  • salt and cracked black pepper


Preparation and Cooking Instructions :

  1. Place the apple, onion, sugar, vinegar, water and lemon rind in a large saucepan or jam pan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add the sage, salt and pepper and continue cooking for 15 minutes or until apples are soft and sauce is syrupy. Spoon into hot sterilized jars and seal. Store in the fridge for up to 3 months.
