Chili burger

Serves : 4     Preparation time : 20 minutes     Cooking time : 10-15 minutes


Ingredients :

  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 4 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 tspn Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
  • salt and pepper
  • Tabasco sauce, to taste
  • 1 large red onion, cut into rings
  • ¼ cup soya sauce
  • 3 tspn soft brown sugar
  • lettuce leaves
  • 8 thick slices Vienna loaf
  • 4 jalapeņo chilies, finely sliced

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

  1. Combine the mince, onion, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, coriander, salt, pepper and Tabasco in a large bowl. Mix with hands until well combined. Divide mixture into 4 portions and shape into patties.
  2. Heat a large frying pan or grill plate, brush liberally with oil. Cook patties 3-4 minutes each side or until brown and cooked through. While patties are cooking, cook whole onion rings, brushing with combined soya sauce and sugar until onion is tender.
  3. Wash and pat dry lettuce leaves with paper towel. Toast bread and place 4 slices on serving plates. On each slice, place lettuce, a meat patty, onion rings and jalapeņo chili followed by another slice of toast.
