Country Cabbage recipe

Ingredients :

  • ½ of a large head of cabbage
  • ½ cup butter flavored crisco
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ½ cup flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¾ cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tspn sugar
  • 2 tbsp table mustard
  • 1 tspn salt


Preparation and Cooking Instructions :

  1. Cut ½ of a large head of cabbage into chunks in a large saucepan and cover with water. Cover & simmer until tender
  2. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, melt ½ cup Butter Flavored Crisco.
  3. Saute 1 small chopped onion in the Crisco then stir in ½ cup flour. Stir constantly for a minute or 2, then add the remaining ingredients.
  4. Stir sauce into drained cabbage.
  5. Place in a casserole, and covered with buttered crumbs (see note)
  6. Bake at 375°F for about 30 minutes.
  7. Cooks Note : To make buttered crumbs; combine 4 tbsp Butter Flavored Crisco and 2 cups of crumbs in a saucepan. Heat and mix well
