Sausage and cheese burger

Serves : 4  Preparation time : 20 minutes  Cooking time : 5-10 minutes


Ingredients :

  • 4 thick pork sausages
  • ¼ cup tomato relish or chutney
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices white bread or 8 square crumpets
  • 1 tomato, thinly sliced
  • green oak leaf lettuce
  • black pepper, optional

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

  1. Cut each sausage down the center lengthwise, three-quarters of the way through. Open sausage out, placing cut side down. Make small diagonal slashes along each sausage to prevent them from curling.
  2. Heat a grill plate, brush liberally with oil. Cook sausages 2-3 minutes each side or until brown and cooked through. Place sausages cut side down on foil-lined tray. Top each sausage with combined relish or chutney and mustard. Sprinkle with cheese. Cook under preheated grill 1-2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  3. Lightly toast bread or crumpets on each side and spread with butter if desired. On 4 of them place tomato slices, lettuce and a cooked sausage ( cheese side up ). Sprinkle with pepper if desired and serve with remaining toast or crumpets.
